| August 2006 - 5th British Casino Golf Championship, Wentworth Club, Wentworth, Surrey | |

Tuesday 29th August dawned sunny if a little threatening as 100 golfers set out on the magnificent Edinburgh course at Wentworth to contest the 5th British Casino Golf Championship. Teams from all the major casino groups, a couple of banks, a construction company, a PR and communications firm, a team of lawyers and industry suppliers, had all just witnessed 2 youngsters receive their brand new powered wheelchairs through CHIPS Charity, which is the charity that benefits from the proceeds of the tournament. Hannah(6) who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy and Seb(14) who has cerebral palsy were delighted with their new chairs and were soon showing everyone how they could use them, with several feet being ridden over in the process. But no-one seemed to mind. |

Despite a downpour half-way through the afternoon and no-one actually winning the car on the 'Hole in One' everyone really enjoyed the day and helped to raise almost £37,000 for CHIPS. This will ensure that another 8 youngsters will be independent and mobile and help their families to live better lives. |

Talarius demonstrated the truly generous and caring face of the adult gaming industry when it presented a cheque for £51,000 to the charity. This donation is the biggest made by a single company and enabled the charity to purchase 12 powered and manual wheelchairs. The money was raised by extraordinary people doing extraordinary things, from pyjama parties to parachute jumps, from washing cars to waxing mens' legs, from fancy dressed cycling to five-a-side football. Presentations have been made at the Gambling commission head offices in Birmingham, and at Quicksilver entertainment centres in Livingston, outside Edinburgh, Huddersfield and Erdington and more are planned for London and the south. A truly amazing effort by truly amazing people. |
